In Umbria, only a short distance from Perugia and Lake Trasimeno rises Monte Solare, associated from ancient times with the cult of Apollo, the sun god. Here, among the various greens of the olive groves, vineyards and woods, stands the old, noble Villa of Monte Solare. There are double rooms in the main Villa and in the annexes are several apartments. The Villa, with a walled italian garden, the chapel of Santa Lucia and the orangery has an atmosphere of tranquillity. The rooms in the Villa retain many of their original characteristics: large fireplaces, walls docorated with murals, ancient terracotta floors, and period furnishing, all with spacious bathrooms. La Casa Degli Gelsi is a 16th century house named after its magnificent mulberry trees and has comfortable suites. There is also L'Olivaia and La Limonaria. There are two swimming pools and a delightful restaurant. The chef Antonio Bondi lends his creativity and finesse to the delights of traditional cooking, with the joys of a cantina rich with 200 selected Umbrian wines. Every evening at Monte Solare is a magical evening: a concert, wine tasting, an evening spent discovering the local area… or simply a walk under a sky brimming with stars.
