The Relais Villa d'Assio opened in September 2003. It is in a quiet location in the wonderful and picturesque Rosea's countryside, close to the remains of a magnificent old villa, Quinto Assio (1st century BC). Mount Terminillo and the attractive Piediluco lake provide the background, with a vista encompassing the wildlife reserve of Lungo and Ripasottile lakes, the smaller lakes belonging to the ancient "Lacus Velinus". Just one hours drive from Rome, and within easy reach of Perugia, Assisi, Todi and Spoleto, the strategic location of this Relais hotel in Rieti's district, known since ancient times as "Umbilicus Italiae" (navel of Italy) makes it a perfect base from which to explore the art, history, cuisine and culture of the area. This 4-star hotel has 40 bedrooms and suites, an air-conditioned restaurant, a lounge bar, easy parking, an outdoor swimming pool (open from 30 May to 30 September) and a solarium. Not far from the hotel is a horseriding area, paragliding, sailing, and sport fishing facilities for guests. Each bedroom is spacious and equipped with air conditioning, mini bar, TV, direct dial phone, safe, and private bathroom with hairdryer. The Relais Villa D'Assio hotel is the result of a meticulous restoration project, refurbishing an ancient 19th century village, where possible using the original building materials and styles. The Tempe restaurant (the name a reminder of Cicero's philosophy--having once stayed in the Quinto Assio luxuriouse villa whose remains can still be seen today) serves inventive cuisine with local specialities using the best products from local farms of the region.
