Above the historic centre of Montepulciano sits this magnificently restored 14th century palazzo,which overlooks the Piazza San Francesco, and out across the Val D’Orcia. Wiith unparalleled views onto the valleys of Chiana and D’Orcia, Locanda San Francesco is the perfect base from which to enjoy Tuscany. La Locanda di San Francesco occupies what was once the Oratorio di Sant’Emidio e della Misericordia, rising above the ancient city walls that surround the oldest part of Montepulciano. It is attached to the 14th century Church of San Francesco and dominates the square of the same name. Antique furnishings, the comfort of a small, independent hotel (just four rooms) and the breathtaking views across the two valleys give this hotel its unique charm. The rooms are situated on the first floor and are fitted with independent air conditioning, bar fridge, LCD satellite TV, telephone, DVD player and Internet connection. Beds are queen or king size and each room is comfortably furnished. Most of the roomy bathrooms have large windows with the same views that can be admired from the rooms. They feature large shower stalls and have hair dryers and Hermès toiletries. The wine-bar bistro …e lucevan le stelle, and La Locanda di San Francesco, are run by a winemaker family and are located in the same building that faces onto Piazza San Francesco. Come through the two magnificent doors onto an extensive terrace and enjoy the Tuscan sun from early morning or admire unforgettable sunsets over the Val D’Orcia. Most of the wines offered in the elegant wine bar are from Tuscany's best estates - and available by the glass or bottle. Accompanied by the best of Tuscany's artisan cheeses and salami, or other simple dishes usually available at any time of the day. You will also find a showcase of olive oil, honey, pasta and other hand-made Tuscan food on sale.
