Monteriggioni is a delightful walled village located in the province of Siena. The walls and fourteen towers, built during the first two decades of the 1200's and immortalised by the poet Dante Alighieri, are still intact and this very special small hotel is inside, off the main (and only) piazza. The hotel was first established in 1993; the original architectural style was maintained as much as possible and the original materials re-used and renovated giving this very pretty small hotel an elegant and interesting atmosphere. The back of the hotel looks out on to a large garden with a swimming pool surrounded by olive trees, and during the summer one can have breakfast there. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with soft furnishings in neutral shades which look stunning against the stone and wood of the original structure. All have full bathrooms and other modern comforts--air conditioning, telephone, satellite television, fridge/bar, hairdryer. There is also a wonderful apartment available called La Maison, set within the walls of the fortified village of Monteriggioni, and a few steps away from the Hotel. This comfortable, spacious two bedroom apartment has its own private entrance, a living-room with a fireplace and an enchanting view over the Tuscan landscape. Of course guests at the apartment may use all the services of the hotel including breakfast, private parking and use of the pool. There is a restaurant directly in front of the hotel, Il Pozzo, which serves Tuscan and Italian cuisine (we recommend making advance reservations as seating is limited). There is also a bar in the hotel and, very importantly, private parking which is included in the cost of the room.
