The building, once known as Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, was created in 1278 and partially renovated in 1461 for the bride of the owner. The ancient palace fell into disrepair until it was rented in the 16th century to the brothers Balburelli degli Scaruffi who created "a fine roomy tavern", an inn called Red Hat Inn. It has been an inn since that time with many restorations, and is now the lovely Hotal Posta. With 33 rooms and 9 suites, all with private bathroom, air conditioning, mini bar, direct phone, satellite television and hair dryer, the inn is a gracious and peaceful place to stay. All the rooms are uniquely decorated, and the junior suites have one bedroom and a cosy living room with sofa and chair, some of which overlook the inner courtyard and others which overlook the Cathedral Square and the Piazza del Monte. There is a beautiful honeymoon suite with rooftop terrace. The double rooms are attractive with the option of twin beds or one big bed. The Hotel Posta is situated in the heart of the historic centre of Reggio Emilia and overlooks Prampolini Square just a few meters from the Cathedral and the Town Hall (where the italian flag was born in 1797), near San Prospero and Ghiara churches, theatres, restaurants, banks and shops.
Notes Sports : golf, tennis and swimming pool in nearby clubs with special arrangements with the hotel. Gastronomy : it is possible to arrange visits to balsamic vinegar and parmesan cheese producing farms, ham seasoning plants, wine cellars. Music : it is possible to visit the Opera Theatre.
