MINIMUM STAY OF TWO NIGHTS. FOUR NIGHTS MINIMUM STAY IN NEW YEAR'S EVE (Dec/31). For late arrivals (after 6:30 pm) it is necessary to inform in advance. Torrita di Siena, where Antica Dimora Le Contrade is located, is in the centre of the south Senese zone which com,prises Val d´Orcia, the Valdichiana and a marginal part of Crete Senese. The location makes it perfect for visiting the beautiful centres of Siena, Firenze, Cortona, Pienza, Montepulciano, Chianciano, Terme, Montalcino, San Quirico d'Orcia, Orvieto, Lago Trasimeno and the Tomb Etruscan di Chiusi. The village retains traces of circular walls and four characteristic doorways - like the urban evolution of a fortified castle. In the village itself there are some exquisite examples of the past in the piazza with its communal building, tower and church of Saint Flora and Lucilla (late Roman), and the Theatre of the Oscuri (18th century). Staying at Antica Dimora Le Contrade is a welcoming and romantic experience and the building itself is full of art, history, culture and luxury. Each of the six rooms drives its name from the Otto Contrade - Eight Contradas of the village which for decades has taken part in the historic heritage and cultural background of the village. Each with its own bathroom, the rooms are unique. Stazione and Refreno are standard rooms (twin or double), Porta a Gavina is a deluxe double room, they all face the ancient part of Via San Martino. Le Fonti double suite has a bedroom with adjacent living area leading out to a terrace overlooking the historical centre of the village. Porta a Pago is a double Suite on the second floor of the Dimora and has a clear view of Valdichiana. It has an anusual cone-shaped wooden ceiling. The luxurious Cavone suite has views both to the ancient part of Via San Martino and the historic centre.
There is a restaurant at the Dimora serving regional cuisine.

Notes There are many thermal baths in the area including Val d'Orcia, Valdichiana, San Casciano dei Bagni and Chianciano. Only 3 kms away from Chianciano, in the area of Sant' Albino are the thermal baths of Montepulsiano and in Valdichiana are the sulfurous waters of Rapolano and the gigantic thermal swimming pool of Sarteano. Starting in the first week in March the exitement starts to building in anticipation of the Palio. The week before the Palio is a special week for Torrita, full of events like the duel of honourable knights, exhibitions of archery, the flying of the falcons and dancing, jugglers, jesters and singers. This is also the time of the opening of the four taverns Nencia, Ponticino, Ghino and Pagone, managed by the eight contradas, where it is possible to taste the specialities of Tuscany such as Pici of Valdichiana and Beef Steak.

Everything! The city is charming and out of the tourist path, so it was a great place to unwind in the morning and at night. We used it as a home base for our explorations of Toscano: Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza.
The hotel was elegant, beautifully appointed with Murano glass everywhere one looked and very comfortable! It is also incredibly affordable.
We were fortunate to arrive the day before they celebrated the Palio Strordinaire and we got caught up in the festivities that lasted three days. It was a wonderful glimpse into a special tradition.
