Hotel Torre Barbara was built on antique ruins by Francesco Cosenza in 1850. Situated at Punta Scutolo, in Montechiaro, which is part of Vico Equense, it is on the main road to Sorrento (about 250 metres above sea level.) Recently restored by its new owners, it is now a delightful small inn with a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Surrounded by sweet-smelling flowers, fruit trees and lush vegetation, there are some great vistas from the rooms and gardens. All the rooms are air-conditioned and have ensuite bathrooms. They are decorated in a sophistated style, elegant and original and with telephone, satellite TV, internet access, mini bar and safe. Most rooms overlook the sea. Panoramic views can be enjoyed from the gardens and most of the rooms - with glimpses of Vesuvio, Capri and the Penisola Sorrentina. There is a little swimming pool a the Palazzo and it is about a 3 km. drive to the nearest swimmable beach. Only breakfast is served at the Palazzo Torre but there are restaurants in the vicinity, the closest being about 1 km. by car. The hotel is about 5km from Sorrento but is well served by public transport. The bus stops right in front of the hotel and from here you can easily reach the train station, which is only five minutes away. The trains to Sorrento run every 30 mins and the journey is no longer than 10-15 mins. It is possible to enjoy this hotel and the area without a car (although it would be a little restrictive).
